Compliance expertise, AI-amplified

Last year I chaired the AI panel at HFM Legal. This year I have up-skilled — learning how to use Anthropic's Claude to create firm-specific knowledge and experience and apply it to build, test and enhance compliance operations. Now I can bring these skills to work for you, or help your firm do this to great effect.

Not a writing tool. A compliance instrument.

To be most effective AI needs our firm-specific knowledge and experience to be fed to it. But once it has that context, it can create the tooling we want on demand. It takes away the admin, the repetition, the memory loss and the fatigue. It provides dynamic updates and proactive response to events — regulatory change, new business initiatives. It maintains linkage between artefacts and an ongoing understanding and record of your business, which insulates from key person risk and genuinely empowers the people using it. I have seen and used this to real effect first hand.

What are the realistic quick wins?

In 2024/25 you likely tried to use ChatGPT to perform research and even create Word docs, Gantt charts or PowerPoint presentations and were disappointed. That was my experience too. In 2026 I have focused on using Claude to be my dev function and knowledge repository. When applied to compliance operations, the results are genuinely game changing.

So what can we do? Almost limitless, but some examples below:

compliance-ai — capability overview
$ list capabilities --format=compliance --firm=your_firm
01
Compliance tracker — build a custom tracker for the team covering routine and ad hoc events, plus kanban-style tracking of items in flight
02
Bespoke training — create compliance training built around your firm's profile, employee base, and regulatory perimeter
03
Regulatory horizon monitoring — monitor rule changes and final notices, then generate firm-specific suggestions and impact assessments
04
Policy and procedure library — review and harmonise policies, remove repetition, make them more nuanced and bespoke, improve staff access and querying, and update en masse instantly
05
Monitoring and testing — generate monitoring and testing plans and dynamic Q&A in HTML format to capture, share and record outcomes
06
Regulatory operations — build solutions for best execution, surveillance or regulatory reporting: ingestion, reporting and record keeping
07
Risk and control assessments — AI retains the relationship between each risk, the control, the policy, the regulation, the business activity and the owners — tracking, reporting and presenting on all of it
08
Routine generation — email generation, report generation, dashboards, presentations, project management
And more

I am not pitching to be a firm-wide AI consultant. I am a compliance officer — one who can use AI to unlock the improvements you have been imagining.

A demonstration, not a description

Reading about this is less useful than seeing it. Below are two things: a short presentation setting out the method, and an interactive demonstration you can run against your own firm's details.

AI Compliance Workbench

See how AI joins it all together

This workbench is an example of what AI can quickly build — tools that join together in a way that previously required significant vendor spend. Fed with an understanding of your firm, it builds, monitors, assesses and develops compliance requirements across a single integrated environment: risk assessments, policy library, training, regulatory horizon, SMCR frameworks, surveillance models and more. No licensing. Built to your firm, not the average firm.

Runs in your browser. Illustrative demonstration only — not advice, and not to be relied upon.

Worth knowing
This page, the presentation and the demonstration above, were built by prompt
Not hand-coded over weeks. The working demonstration on this page — the input form, the generation logic, the monitoring programme, the risk and control matrix, the surveillance models, the dashboard, the regulatory horizon — was produced from a single prompt in under a minute, then refined using just a handful of further prompts, well under an hour to create everything you see and use on this page. That is the point being made: if this can be stood up that quickly, so can the tooling your compliance function has been waiting on.

Compliance expertise. AI-amplified.

All of the above are realistic as long as your firm is comfortable with AI enterprise licence terms — Anthropic's in this case. The critical distinction is that I am not bringing generic AI capability: I am bringing 15 years of compliance expertise, applied through AI.

How

Working for you, I would use your firm's AI licence, training and developing its understanding of your business and the regimes within which it operates, then build bespoke compliance solutions within your architecture.

Long term

The key is that the team learn to interact with the AI prompt like a team member — the way they might use Slack. Once that habit is established, it can be harnessed enormously, moving into agentic automation of procedures and processes.

Getting started

I can lead the initial effort to input the firm's contextual information and start generating tangible improvements — securing buy-in from the team and other stakeholders before the broader transition begins.

The goal

Coaching the compliance team to transition to capturing and updating their work via AI prompt. From there, bespoke agentic AI can automate procedures, generate new tooling, and materially reduce the cost of compliance operations.

Ten-day engagements — September to December

I am offering three introductory engagements to EMEA hedge fund CCOs and compliance leads at significantly reduced rates, to prove the concept and build something tangible together.

First firm
Free
Ten working days at no charge
Second firm
50% off
Ten days at half the standard day rate
Third firm
30% off
Ten days at 30% below standard

In return: honest feedback and the ability to reference the engagement within our network, anonymously if you prefer. The ten days are intended to produce tangible output — something your team will actually use, not a slide deck. Two consecutive working weeks, anytime September to December, remote, on-site or hybrid. Pricing tiers are based on who commences first, not who expresses interest first.

I do not license software. I build bespoke tools.

There is no product here, no seat licence, no annual renewal, and nothing to migrate onto. Everything I build is constructed inside your firm's own AI environment, against your firm's own context, and it belongs to you. If we stop working together, the tools do not stop working and you are not left renting something you cannot change.

That matters more than it sounds. Compliance software is usually built for the average firm, which means it fits no firm exactly — and the gap between what it does and what you actually need is the work your team ends up doing manually anyway. A bespoke tool starts from your permissions, your activities and your policies, and can be changed the same afternoon you decide it should be.
